Wrestling 2011

Faith Christian Eagles Wrestling

2011-12 Season

Regionals

Feb. 10th

As expected the regionals were an incredible challenge for these young sophomores and one freshman wrestlers. Two wrestlers placed 6th but did not qualify for State, Seth VonRentzell and Clark Kelly. Both can expect that next year they will compete for a place in the state competition.

The surprise in the competition was TJ Hasz. He took down his competition and placed third, qualifying him for the State Competition beginning 2/16/12. As a first year sophomore wrestler, this is an incredible accomplishment in the 152 division wrestling, comprised mostly of juniors and seniors.

Clear Creek Frontier Tournament

Feb. 5th

The Frontier tournament consisted of 11 schools in preparation for the regionals. Many of the schools will be involved in the regionals the weekend of 2/10.

The Faith wrestlers did very well with Frankie Sturniolo, Seth VonRentzell, Chris Siebarth winning one of their matches.

Two wrestlers had an exceptional competition, placing in their weight classes. Clark Kelly placed 3rd in the 145 weight class with 2 wins. First year wrestler TJ Hasz won three matches and placed second in the 152 weight class. Both wrestlers have high hopes of making it to state in the regional tournament on February 10, 2012.

Lyons Invitational

Jan. 14th

The Faith wrestlers traveled to Lyons for a full day individual tournament. TJ Hasz had a very successful tournament with two wins and a semi-final match. He finished 4th out of 15 in his weight class. Clark Kelly also had two wins and competed in the semi-finals for a 4th place finish. Frankie Sturniolo, Chris Siebarth, Seth Von Rentzell all had victories in the tournament. It was a challenging day with the wrestlers each having 4 matches.

The next tournament is January 28th in Estes Park.

Dual with Lutheran High School

Jan. 12th

Faith wrestlers went up against Lutheran high school in a two school dual at the Lutheran facility in Parker. For some of the wrestlers who transferred from Lutheran, this was a great rivalry. All of the wrestlers were very competitive with two wrestlers winning their matches. Frankie Sturniolo had a great match and went the entire 6 minutes to win on points. Seth VonRentzell  was also impressive when he pinned his opponent in the first round.

Bennett tournament

Jan. 6th & 7th

Faith Wrestlers had a very busy schedule for the weekend of January 6th. They all wrestled 4 matches on Friday and 4 or 5 matches on Saturday.

On Friday they were matched up with probably the strongest teams in Colorado, Brush for their first match. All of the wrestlers struggled with very tough competition. They agreed it was a good experience for a young team to wrestle highly ranked wrestlers at the beginning of the season. The second half of the dual tournament went much better with Seth VonRentzell, Clark Kelly, Chris Siebarth, and TJ Hasz winning their last two matches.  Frankie Sturniolo won his final match.

On Saturday the wrestlers had their first experience with a round robin tournament.  TJ won his first match by pinning his opponent in the first round. In the second round, both Seth and Frankie won, pinning their opponents in the first minute of their round. The third round Frankie had a bye and TJ and Clark won with a pin. Frankie and Clark both won their final rounds and scored a 5th place out of 15 wrestlers in the 106 and 138 weight classes.  It was a very successful day for all of the wrestlers.

They are all looking forward to their dual with Parker Lutheran on Thursday January 12th.

Faith Wrestling

The inaugural season for wrestling began on December 1st at Bennett High School. Seth VonRentzell was the first wrestler for Faith and started this season with a pin in less than 2 minutes.  As a sophomore, this is his first experience wrestling and he started with a bang.  Other wrestlers were not so fortunate going against this power house wrestling school. Coach Jason wanted the boys to get an experience with a tough opponent to begin the season.

The Middle Park tournament scheduled for December 3rd was cancelled due to snow.

The next all day tournament was at Stanley Lake High School. The boys had the opportunity to wrestle 5 times against 5 different schools. It was good experience to get this much mat time in one day.

The boys took on Lyons High School on December 15th and had their best showing of the season. They ended the tournament in a virtual tie. Several wrestlers did well with TJ Hasz pinning his opponent after a well fought battle. As a sophomore, he also is in his first season and has shown that he will be one of the stars of the Faith’s first year in wrestling. Clark Kelly and Chris Siebarth wrestled boys in a higher weight class then they normally  wrestled and still were able to pin their opponents.  All in all, it was an excellent showing for this first year team and an indication of the potential of this team for the future.

Next up, Bennett Team Duals and Tournament on January 6th and 7th.
