Faith Christian Eagles Volleyball Coaches Corner
PROGRAM DIRECTOR AND HEAD COACH
Laura Caldwell
This is Laura Caldwell's third year as head coach for the Lady Eagles after taking an eleven year sabbatical from coaching. Previously Laura led the girl's volleyball program from 1990 - 1998, making it to the final-four five times and winning a state championship in the process. She is very excited to have returned to coaching at Faith after taking time off to be with her family. Laura played volleyball throughout high-school and also played four years at Ft. Lewis College in Durango. She has experienced much success, including a 61-game winning streak, a record of 251-38, being awarded Coach of the Year, and becoming the first Faith coach inducted into the Metro-League Hall of Fame. In addition, Laura teaches Algebra 2, Analytic Geometry and Calculus at Faith. She is married to Shawn Caldwell and they have four children: Davis, Jordan, Gunnar, and Brooke. Laura is looking forward to working with a special group of girls this year and can't wait to see what God has in store for the program.
JUNIOR VARSITY HEAD COACH & VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH
Chris Powers
Chris Powers has been coaching girls volleyball for 17 years. He has coached both club and high school during that time. He has taken home a few state championships at the levels he has coached. Since coaching JV at Faith he has taken the championship trophy home for the CA tournament every year. He recently coached the Greeley Showdown championship team at the 16's level for Momentum Volleyball Club. He loves to instill Godly values and Godly work ethic into his girls. He loves to teach them the secret aspects of the game that can give them the edge over their opponents. Coach Powers is also a high level player in the state of Colorado. He has been playing Division 1 USA volleyball for many years and has competed in national tournaments in Dallas, Phoenix, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Austin, New Orleans and Denver through the help of local volleyball magnate, Tommy Kawano. Chris Powers is often considered the "King of the Grass" by the local volleyball community because of his success in doubles tournaments throughout the years. In the last 11 years of playing 149 doubles volleyball tournaments, he has amassed a staggering 74 1st place victories, 26 2nd place finishes and 18 3rd place finishes. He is highly competitive on the court, but has a more laid-back approach to coaching. He will often be seen instructing the girls on the sidelines and rarely seems flustered despite the girls current game status. Coach Powers is thrilled to be working with Laura Caldwell and Stacey Dozer this year.
