What Is SCRIP?
SCRIP is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase SCRIP, you’re purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use SCRIP to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you can lower your tuition.
How SCRIP generates revenue for you.
Beginning in May, 2005, FCA in partnership with PeopleHelpers will make available to your family, through an order form, the ability to purchase SCRIP from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the SCRIP is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial rebate to FCA. FCA in turn passes on that rebate directly to your family in the way of a tuition reduction for the school year. The remaining 1.5% of the total cost is retained and is used for administrative and start-up costs of the program.
SCRIP is more of a "personal” fundraiser.
The businesses you purchase SCRIP from return to FCA a rebate ranging from two to fifteen percent or more. SCRIP is a popular revenue source because families don’t have to sell anything. Simply make normal household purchases you would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with SCRIP.
How does this work?
For example, let’s say you spend:
· $100 a week on groceries = $400 per month
· $25 a week on gasoline = $100 per month
· $50 a month to dine out
· Total: $550 per month = $6,600 per year. Using a conservative estimate of a 5% rebate (range is two to fifteen percent or more); you already have the potential to lower your tuition by at least $264!

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: I can't open the PDF files.
A: Make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, available at www.adobe.com.
Q: Is the SCRIP program going to only work during the school year?
A: SCRIP will continue in the summer, with a revised pick up and delivery schedule that will be announced later.
Q: Will I get an order form when they come out, or do I have to go to the office and pick one up?
A: A current version will be available for download at the top of this page. Or you can pick one up at delivery times.
Q: How often is the SCRIP list updated?
A: The most current list available at www.glscrip.com under Retailers. Our order form will not have enough room to print all companies, but all companies are offered.
Q. Will GLScrip make an effort to include more companies that are in this region (such as Safeway/King Soopers or Conoco/Phillips)? As far as I can tell, the only gas station offered that operates in this area is Shell.
A: SCRIP is actively working to add partners. If there are some specific businesses you would like to see added, let me know. We may try to add them either through SCRIP or through our cash-in-hand program.
Q. What assurance do we have that local stores in the chains will accept the Scrip?
A: There is a set of rules for each store’s scrip on Great Lake Scrip Center’s website, listed under Retailers. This is a national program and I would be surprised to find a merchant that does not participate.
