Softball 2010 Season

Faith Christian Eagles

2010 Softball

Congratulations to Myndee Thompson for making 1st Team All State!

Season Summary
We ended the season with an overall record of 6 wins / 15 losses, and 5 wins / 5 losses in our conference which placed us 5th in our district.  With only 5 returning players and 11 new players the season was destined to be a challenge, but everyone stepped up, the seasoned players assisting the coaches in teaching / mentoring and the new players absorbing like sponges.  Seniors Myndee and Annie worked magic with their bats, finishing the season with .688 and .655 batting averages respectively,  and each playing the defensive positions they were accustomed to, but also stepping out into positions never before played.  Both took a turn on the mound, and Annie excelled at 1st base.  Junior Tiffany finished the season with a .559 batting average and also played several positions, including pitcher.  Returning sophomores Jessie and Stephanie came ready to play, Jessie also stepping up to pitch.  Sophomore Kayla improved much this season and always came to the field with a smile and the best attitude a coach could ask for.  Rounding out the team were our ten freshmen – Skylar, Claire, Gloria, Kaylyn, Faith, Casey, Michaela, Abigail, Lacie and Chelsea.  Each girl made a contribution to the team, whether it was with their bat, their glove, a positive attitude, a mentoring spirit or just a desire to play softball for Faith and for the Lord. Thank you to each one.

A few more notable items:
-       Myndee and Tiffany were selected as 1st Team All-League.
-        Annie was selected 2nd Team All-League.
-       Myndee and Annie were selected to play in the All-Star CCGS Senior Game.
-       Myndee was voted “Senior of the Year” in our league.

Congratulations!!!!

2010 NFCA High School National Player of the Week - Fall

Oct. 12 – Annie Richardson – Faith Christian HS – 1B/3B – Arvada, Colo.
Oct. 4 – Mikka Jones – Monarch HS – 1B – Louisville, Colo.

Lutheran, Loss 6 - 17  (Round 1 Districts)
Since we placed 5th in our district we were paired with Lutheran in the first game of Districts.  We came out ready to play and hoping to advance to round two, however our five hits produced only 6 runs, simply not enough.  Myndee finished her high school softball career with a 2 run HOME RUN!!!!!

Sheridan,  WIN 13 – 1  (Senior Day)
Our last regular season game and our “Senior Day”, a day to recognize the hard work of our two seniors – Myndee and Annie.  Due to a scheduling conflict Sheridan graciously allowed us the opportunity to play at home and was not afforded the opportunity to recognize their two seniors at a home game. For this reason, we broke with tradition and honored the 2 Sheridan seniors at the beginning of the game.  We then honored Myndee and Annie at the conclusion of the game and also celebrated with a WIN.

St. Mary’s Academy,  WIN 19-3
Our bats were hot and our defense solid.  We had 9 hits with Annie batting 3 for 3, 2 doubles and 5 RBI’s.

Platte Canyon, Loss 3 – 20
Even with doubles by Myndee and Annie and Tiffany’s triple it was no match for the bats and defense of  Platte Canyon.

Eaton, Loss 5 – 15
We started out strong keeping the score relatively close, however Eaton rallied in both the 4th and the 6th to pull out of reach.

Lutheran, Loss 6 – 9
This was a very close game, we held them until the 5th inning, but after a 4 run rally even Myndee’s triple was not enough and we just could not battle back.

Jefferson, WIN 16 – 5
With solid defense and hot bats we were able to take advantage of opportunities and win.

Platte Valley, Loss  8 – 12
We played tough, however came up short in the end.

Middle Park, Loss 3 – 19
Annie made her pitching debut, however she was no match for the bats of Middle Park. With only 5 hits of our own producing only three runs, we could not catch them.

Machebeuf, WIN 16 – 1
Another WIN!  We came out ready to play after the weekend in Burlington.  Our defense was solid and our bats…..well what can be said – 16 runs!  Every girl on the team either scored at least once or contributed to a run. Way to go girls!

FCA Softball

Strasburg, Loss 1 - 20
Our first game of the season was against Strasburg and the inexperience of our team showed as we lost 20 – 1, our only run being scored by Myndee off of an RBI triple by Annie.

Evergreen, Loss 2 - 17
Next up was Evergreen. We scored two runs, Tiffany on an RBI Triple by Myndee and her run off on an RBI single by Annie, but lost 17 – 2.

FCA Softball

Holy Family, Loss 0 - 23
Holy Family, who we beat last year to advance to the final four in the state tournament, soundly beat us 24 – 0.

Peak to Peak, Loss 3 - 14
Myndee scored twice, once off her solo home run and the second off Annie’s two run home run.

Englewood, WIN 9 -8
Our first win of the season went into extra innings…it was the bottom of the 8th inning with 2 outs when Tiffany hit a triple and was in scoring position. Myndee hit yet another triple, sending Tiffany (the winning run) home.  Others who scored were Tiffany, Myndee and Jessie with two runs each, and Annie, Michaela and Chelsea each with one run.   Defense was also better only allowing 8 runs.

Burlington Tournament
We went into the Burlington tournament as last year’s Champions but with a healthy realization that this year would be a tougher battle.

FCA Softball

Holyoke, Loss 0 - 10
First game was Holyoke where we had only one hit, which was Claire’s single.  The defense was a little more confident, but we could not hold them.

Rocky Ford, Loss 0 – 25
Again we struggled offensively with only one hit by Tiffany and defensively we allowed 25 runs.

Yuma, Loss 5 – 17
We came out stronger offensively in the first two innings scoring 5 runs (Clair and Myndee two a piece and Tiffany one) as well as 13 hits (Clair 3, Tiffany 1, Myndee 2, Annie 3, Jessie 1 and Michaela 3).  Our defense was still confident; however Yuma found the gaps and capitalized on them.

Akron, WIN 15 – 14
Our second win of the season came against Akron, and again it was a down to the wire, a one run game.  Our bats were hot with both Tiffany and Myndee hitting RBI home runs and 18 total hits (Claire 3, Tiffany 4, Myndee 5, Annie 4, Jessie, Michaela and Faith all with 1).  The defense was stronger and
managed hold them in the 7th.

Burlington, Loss 2 - 13
The second highlight of the tournament was Myndee’s  ”over the fence” home run against Burlington.  We had a total of six hits, Myndee’s home run and a single, Tiffany had a double, along with Annie’s double and single.  Jessie and Abigail both had singles.  Our defense was not a match for the hitting of Burlington though, as their catcher hit a 3 run “over the fence” home run as well.

The 2010 Softball season is here and we go into it with five returning players: two seniors - Annie Richardson and Myndee Thompson, one junior - Tiffany Bakarich and two sophomores – Stephanie Bedow and Jessie Vickles.  Rounding off the roster is sophomore Kayla Hermann, and ten freshmen – Kaylyn Bulander, Gloria Bull, Chelsea Day, Abigail Flaming, Michaela Hegarty, Faith Martin, Claire McDermott, Casey Saunders, Skylar Schefele and Lacie Taloe.  Coaches for the 2010 season are Head Coach Mike Pickett, Assistant Coaches Chad Thompson and Jessica Klika.
