FAITH CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE
MEET THE COACHES
Martha Williams ::: Science Olympiad Growing up in a small Kansas town, I was always very involved in our church. In ninth grade, I heard the message of God's grace and dedicated my life to Christ. I attended the University of Kansas, graduated with a degree in Secondary Science Education, and have been teaching science for 16 years. In 2005, my husband Jeff, our two sons and I moved from Katy, Texas to Golden, Colorado where I became a stay-at-home mom. Then in 2008, I was given the opportunity to teach at Faith. I am thrilled to be here, and that I get to share my passion for Science and for life-long learning. I think Science Olympiad is extremely exciting and very fun, I love seeing the kids rise to challenges using creative problem solving skills. I think it is truly amazing to see what these brilliant young minds can create. In my spare time, I enjoy being active, playing tennis and golf, skiing, and spending time with my family.
Chris Powers ::: Science Olympiad "A man's life is not his own who lives it loving others." Each day that I impart my life into other people through the love of Christ, is a day that I become less of myself and more of Christ's body. I have been a Christian for 31 years, and I gratefully acknowledge that my Christian journey continues. I am the product of a nurturing Christian education that I began to receive when I was in 5th grade. I chose to continue my Christian education at Oral Roberts University. It was there that I caught the vision of giving not only my "life" but my "living" to God. I also met my amazing wife, Traci, at ORU, and I earned a B.S. in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Writing. Traci and I have been blessed to teach together in Christian education for the last 15 years, and see God's provision and love in our opportunity to minister together at FCA.
Gary Sinner ::: Robotics I have been the FCHS Robotics Team Coordinator and Programming Mentor for the last two years. These are actually volunteer roles - my "day job" is software development for a software company in the petroleum industry. I primarily work on projects that involve GIS, or Geographic Information Systems, so working on robots is actually a very different experience. The programming fundamentals are the same, but instead of making maps, I get to teach the students how to make robots respond to a variety of sensor and transmitter inputs. Working with the robotics team is especially rewarding as you see the students grow in their ability to come up with new design ideas and follow through to making them reality. One of our primary goals as mentors is to inspire students to consider potential careers in science, technology, engineering, or math. I grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and received a BS degree in Computer Science with a minor in GIS from LSU. I met my wife, Meg, while at LSU, and we moved to Colorado in 1987. We have two daughters: one is an art major at CSU, and the other attends Faith and is investigating engineering programs at the Colorado School of Mines.
