Faith Christian Eagles Boys Golf 2011 Season
STATE GOLF TOURNAMENT Jack Cummings qualified for and participated in the 3A State Golf Tournament. The tournament was held on Oct 3rd and 4th at Dos Rios in Gunnison. Jack described the course as short and tight, with small, narrow fairways and water on 16 out of 18 holes in the course; “basically every hole had a bend with water in front of it.” Though the competition was extremely challenging, Jack shot a 74 the 1st day, and a 77 the 2nd day, earning him a tie for 10th place out of 84 golfers. Top place finishers were golfers from Kent Denver and Aspen. Jack enjoyed the season very much and the new coach, Kyle Morris, who, in Jack’s words, “knew what he was talking about and was a lot of fun.” Jack looks forward to next season, and believes the team will be stronger than ever. This year’s team was a young team, having lost 4 seniors from last year’s squad. But, there is a tremendous amount of potential in these young men and they will continue to improve from season to season. Personally, Jack plans on working hard on his game throughout the winter months at an indoor golf facility, and is excited about his chances next year. Proverbs promises that, “All hard work brings a profit.” Keep working guys and we know you will go far! Holy Family Bobblehead Varsity Invitational & Last JV League Match - Sept. 26th
The team returned to a former adversary, the Broadlands golf course, with a vengeance. After leaving that course on September 1st with their worst performance, the team rallied back to a phenomenal performance to clinch the 2011 golf season. Twenty-one total Varsity teams of 4-each golfers were in attendance as Faith fought for position with the entire field. Jack Cummings found a groove and took advantage of it by shooting a minus-2 score of 70 (35-35), beating his previous personal best and previous school record, 71. Jack Cummings' round of 70 won him second place in the tournament out of 86 Varsity-level golfers, losing only to Wyndham Clark of Valor Christian, who shot a 68 (36-32). The next highest score was a 73 for third place, won in a tie by two other Valor Christian golfers.
A phenomenal varsity team effort was made Seniors Ryan Ashley and Micahel Yagi completing the amazing team score of 233, by shooting 80 and 83 respectively. The JV team also came improved from September 1 placing 5th with a team score of 274, which was just 4 strokes outside of 3rd place. The top four of Faith Christian's Varsity golf team ventured to qualify for the 2011 CHSAA 3A State Golf Tournament. The weather turned out of be very cold, windy, and wet, and for a course that plays very difficult even in great weather, the trying conditions proved to effect every golfer's score. The team overall did very well placing 5th out of 16 teams with a 258, which counts the best three of the four scores. Jack Cummings qualified for state with a 79, while Spencer Diegel and Ryan Ashley missed by cutt-off of by an extremely slim margin. Michael Yagi also missed the cut-off.

The top four on the varsity team, Jack Cummings 79, Spencer Diegel 87, Ryan Ashley 90, and Nate Shull 94, fought hard the whole day and combined for a 350, finishing them outside of the top 5 teams where they normally end up. It was another blistering hot day at 93 degrees, as the FCA boys golf team hit the links against 9 other schools at Broken Tee golf course, hosted by Englewood HS. Jack Cummings (junior) finished with an impressive 75, landing him in 5th place out of 40 golfers, his second top-5 finish this season. Michael Yagi (senior) shot a solid 84 putting him 14th place. The golfers are working very hard on their skills during practice and are to be commended for their achievements!
Indian Peaks Golf Course - Aug. 15th
Holy Family hosted this tournament at Indian Peaks golf course. It was a pretty hot day, but with little wind, conditions were great for golf. Jack Cummings (junior) must have been comfortable, as he was able to shoot a phenomenal even-par round of 72, which we think ties the Faith Christian school record for lowest round in a tournament! Despite the incredible round, Jack landed in 3rd place behind golfers from Kent Denver and Parker-Lutheran. Spencer Diegel (sophomore) showed up ready to compete and was almost able to finish in the top-10, with an 81, good enough for 11th place. Other notables were Jake Sanders (freshman) with an 86, and Ryan Ashley (senior) and Kyle Goddard (senior) both shot an 87.
