We’ve compiled a list of events that might be a blessing to you. These events range from college fairs to financial aid presentations, test dates and summer programs. Event: Sign up for summer school courses Description: Students who have failed a course or who need remedial work in a subject, may take up to 2 semester courses over the summer from an accredited Colorado high school. Summer classes are offered at Bear Creek, Lakewood, Conifer, and Ralston Valley. Summer Programs
Regis Reading Program Students in these programs make substantial gains in comprehension while doubling reading speed. They learn the best way to read textbooks, take notes, and study for tests. Programs are available for grades 9--12 at Regis University, Red Rocks Community College, or Mountain Phoenix Community School. 3-hour classes occur one day a week for four weeks. Center for Bright Kids Project July 1--21 A three-week residential program for mature 8th--11th graders where students study for six hours a day and have weekend activities and trips in Colorado. Mailed applications due by April 30. Select one of these courses: 1) Science Fiction and the Russian Revolution, 2) Writer's Workshop, 3) Differential Calculus, 4) Logic and Critical Thinking, 5) Environmental Engineering, 6) Cognitive Science. Summer Study High school students having completed 9th, 10th, or 11th grade experience college life at CU, Penn State, Vermont, or The Sorbonne in Paris! Take classes for enrichment, college credit, high school credit, ACT/SAT test prep, science discovery, or community service. Fun, weekend trips are included in the 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6-week programs. Apply at http://www.summerstudy.com/application. Girl's Leadership Council Program 10 sophomore girls from Colorado will be invited to attend a one-week program at DU July 29--August 4. Girls must have a strong interest in and history of volunteer or paid experience in their school or community. Team building, philanthropy, women's issues, and political office will be addressed. University of Wyoming Juniors can apply to be 1 of 30 selected for this one-week (June 17--23), $100 program of hands-on experiences in various engineering fields. Westmont Summer Scholars Three week experience for juniors to earn college credit, get a taste of California college life, and learn what is important to them when picking a college. Students will have the opportunity to work with college admission professionals who can provide essential college search counseling on test preparation, essay writing and interviewing. Washington University Earn 7 units of college credit from June 10--July 14 or from July 15--Aug. 17 at this prestigious school in St. Louis. Must be a sophomore or junior, have a GPA of B+ or better, and ACT score of at least 25. Limited space so apply early at http://summerexperiences.wustl.edu/. Calvin College June 18--July 13 Students enroll in a Calvin course, earn college credit, and live in residence halls. Students can receive a grant toward Calvin tuition if they eventually attend this Grand Rapids, MI school. National Student Leadership Conference 4 10-day choices at each of four locations from June to August: Northwestern, Maryland, Georgia Tech, or Cal, Berkeley. Is med school in your future? This summer you can perform medical rounds, learn examination and surgical techniques, and participate in diagnosis and treatment with practicing physicians. Date: Aug. 21, 2012 6:00--9:00 p.m. Event: College Planning Night Location: Faith Christian High School Description: Pick the 1, 2, or 3 45-minute presentations on topics of interest to you: ACT/SAT Test preparation, financial aid, college athletics, college admissions, state schools, Christian schools. Hear people from College Drive, Kaplan, Colorado Christian and elsewhere share their expertise to help junior and senior families prepare for the college experience. This evening is a popular annual event at Faith Christian High School.
NOVEMBER Date: Nov. 9 (Fri.) from 5:30 p.m. through Nov. 10 (Sat.) 3:00 p.m. Event: FCA Parent Retreat Location: YMCA of the Rockies at Estes Park Description: Are you experiencing high school as a parent for the first time? third time? last time? Do you want to exchange encouragement with other parents? Do you want to get to know the parents of your student's friends? Do you want a quiet place to relax, reflect, and retreat with God and others and discuss the parenting journey?
