Your FCA Cheer Squad has been VERY busy.  First, they held a Mini Cheer Camp for 54 excited FCA Elementary School girls.  Throughout the week, the squad cheered with their mini cheerleaders from 3:30 until 5:00 each day, teaching them V-I-C-T-O-R-Y and a super fun dance.  Then all the girls performed at the football game on Friday evening and what a great performance it was!

Last week proved to be note worthy as well for the FCA Cheer Team. Our girls have been working diligently in preparation for their state competition on December 4th.  While we know in our hearts that our FCA Cheer squad is full of champions, once again this became evident on Saturday, November 6th, when the FCA Eagles Cheer Squad competed against 6 other teams in Greeley.  They competed skillfully and ended up winning the 2A/3A All Girls Division at the Greeley West Winter Blast.  In addition, McKayla Merrell won the jump contest against over 50 other contestants!  CONGRATULATIONS to all of these AWESOME young ladies!

Homecoming 2010

FCA Cheerleaders

The week of Homecoming 2010 was filled with many duties for our cheerleaders.  Each girl not only continued with the regular practice schedule, they also performed in two separate rallies.  At the Middle School on Tuesday, the girls led both the elementary grades and the middle school grades in cheers and competitions.  They cheered on each new team presented for Homecoming week.  They also joined the sixth grade boys in Eagle jacks.

The High School Homecoming Pep Rally was even better.  The squad stunted and danced as usual.  One teacher exclaimed, “The girls were freakishly in sync.”  They even asked several football players to join them in a basket toss competition in which the boys assisted in throwing our flyers into the air.  Then the girls had students from each grade level wrap football players in crepe paper to stir our competitive juices even further.

However, the highlight of the week must have been the actual Homecoming football game against Sheridan.  The girls had strong voices as they led the crowd in cheer after cheer.  They stunted by throwing one another into the air.  They even put up the captains into stunts this week. Their energy and excitement spilled over the railing into the crowd and helped our team successfully win the game.  The crowd can bear witness that this week’s stunts and pyramids surpassed anything seen so far this season.  The girls are working hard at every practice to prepare for their state competition in December.  We’ll be anxiously awaiting news of their  success.

The FCA Eagles 2010-2011 Cheer squad consists of 18 girls including two captains, Ellie Hadden and Tess Brockmeyer.   Over the summer the girls attended cheer camp, worked on stunting with UCA coaches, and improved their tumbling at a local gym.  All their hard work shows in the excellence of each performance.

During practice the girls continue to improve one stunt at a time.  Coach Hadden’s goal this year is that each girl is able to stunt in a variety of stunt groups and rolls.  Each stunt group consists of one flyer (the girl in the air), two bases (the girls on the sides of the stunt holding the foot of the flyer), and one back (the girl in the back stabilizing and controlling the stunt).  In order to perform the complicated stunts you see, each girl works as part of the team lifting, throwing, and catching the flyer.    As you see the flyer tossed in the air and twist down, or stand on one leg with her foot out behind her, understand that this beautiful effect is the result of hours of lifting, balancing, counting, calculating, and catching the most important thing in God’s creation, a girl.  Just ask the boys.

If you are ready to let me hear your Tootsie Roll, Choo-Choo Train, or your Frankenstein, then you might be ready to help our Eagles Cheer Squad.  This squad is dedicated physically and spiritually to lead you in support of your FCA Eagles Football team this weekend.  Come on out in your school colors, bring a cheer voice and scream your lungs out.  Don’t forget to say, “Go Big Red,” and watch the girls respond in kind.  Last week the crowd caught one cheerleader by saying, “Go Big Mel.”  Captain Ellie Hadden was quick to respond to that mistake and laughing pushed the cheerleader off the matt for about 2 seconds.  Can you be the one to catch our girls off guard?
