2011-2012 Season
Faith vs Parker Lutheran
Jan. 24th
The lady Eagles secured a third place spot in the race for the Metro League title Tuesday night with their 60-49 defeat of Lutheran. The first quarter was marked by aggressive, quick, and, at times, frantic play by both teams. The Eagles did a great job of distributing the ball and scoring from almost anywhere on the court throughout the first half of play. But Lutheran was not about to let up the pace! As the half time buzzer sounded, the Eagles held a 3 point lead. The second half of play was marked by continued fast play and much ball pressure by the Lions. Lutheran ran a full court press and Faith got into some foul trouble which helped to keep the Lions in the game, shooting 21 of 27 at the free throw line. Fortunately, the lady Eagles controlled the pace of play throughout the fourth quarter and eventually built an 11 point lead. Lutheran attempted to get back into the game by fouling the Eagles to get possession of the ball again but to no avail. The Eagles had four ladies in double figures: Abby Chapman had 18 points, Cassaundra Rindels had 17 points and Abigail Hegarty had a double/double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Hegarty also had a remarkable 9 steals and Chapman posted 6 assists. Helping Hegarty on the boards was Brooklyn Long with 7 and Kayla Keiter and Cassaundra Rindels with 4 each. The Eagles shot a respectable 40% from the field. Next up for the ladies is Englewood High on February 2nd.
Faith vs Peak to Peak
Jan. 20th
Long standing rivalries are always the most exciting games of the season! The Friday night match up of the lady Eagles and Peak to Peak Pumas did not disappoint. The Eagles took control early and had little trouble containing the Pumas through out the first half of very physical play. Abby Chapman hit 3 of her 4 threes of the night in the first half including a buzzer beater as the first half ended. The ladies headed to the locker room with a comfortable 11 point lead. As the second half began, the Pumas stepped up their defense and held the Eagles to 9 points for the third quarter. Faith still had the game well under control until turnover woes and buckets that just would not fall allowed the Pumas back into the game! With only 7.8 seconds left to play, the Eagles held a tenuous lead of only one point-51-52. Abby Chapman was fouled and hit both free throws to bring the score to 54-51. The Pumas tried one last ditch effort to score by rolling the ball on the inbounds play but the ball was tipped by the Pumas and rolled out of bounds as the final buzzer sounded! The Eagles posted their eighth win of the season. Leading scorer for the Eagles was Abby Chapman with 28 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. Brooklyn Long had a double double with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Long also added 3 steals and 5 assists. Abigail Hegarty rounded out the top scorers with 6 points, 5 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals.
Faith vs Holy Family
Jan. 17th
Facing the four time state champion Holy Family Tigers is always a daunting task but the Eagles took on that task with confidence Tuesday night. Due to the addition of the new wood floor on Ward Road, the "home" game was played at Colorado Academy. The Eagles won the tip off and played a very hard fought, aggressive battle from that tip off until the final buzzer. Well executed offense and intense defensive effort on the part of all the ladies resulted in a 23-19 score in favor of the Tigers at the half time break. Abby Chapman (19 points) was hot from behind the arc hitting 5 of 9 threes, Abigail Hegarty converted under the basket for an additional 12 points and Brooklyn Long posted an amazing 19 boards all contributing to keeping Faith in the game. The Eagles committed a number of turnovers in the 4th quarter that hurt their efforts and that the Tigers converted into buckets. Although the ladies continued outstanding effort throughout the final quarter, they fell short. Final score: 59-46. Caroline Jenkins (6 points), Cassaundra Rindels (5 points) and Brooklyn Long (4 points) rounded out scoring for the Eagles. The ladies face a talented Peak to Peak Pumas team Friday night.
Faith vs Kent Denver
Jan. 13th
The Lady Eagles are now boasting a 7-4 record after soundly beating the Kent Denver Sun Devils Friday night. With the Sun Devil's leading scorer side lined with an injury, the Eagles had little trouble chalking up another win. Behind early buckets by Brooklyn Long, Katelyn Pruett, and Abby Chapman (including three behind the arc),Faith held a first quarter lead of 15-6. Continued offensive pressure throughout the second quarter resulted in a first half lead of 33-12. In spite of the lead, the Eagles did not let up defensively throughout the third period, holding the Sun Devils to one loan basket! With the game well in hand, the starters rested most of the fourth quarter allowing all players time on the court including transfer Macey Pearman who posted her first varsity minutes for the Eagles. Abby Chapman led all scorers with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 5 assists. Brooklyn Long (10 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals, 2 assists) and Abigail Hegarty (8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists) dominated the boards with 13 rebounds together and each had 2 blocked shots! Faith vs St. Mary's
Jan. 10th
The Lady Eagles posted their most decisive win of the season Tuesday night against St. Mary's Academy. In their 61-18 win over St. Mary's, every player on the bench had significant playing time and the team defensive effort held their opponent to just 7 points in the third quarter and 0 points in the fourth! The Eagles were also impressive offensively, shooting 43% from the field and draining 5 of 9 from behind the arc. The ladies' full court press forced a number of turnovers resulting in 20 steals by the team. Brooklyn Long led all scorers with 17 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Faith vs CSCS
Jan. 7th
In spite of dismal shooting in the first half of play, the Lady Eagles posted their fifth win of the 2011-2012 season! The Eagles faced the Colorado Springs Christian Lions Saturday afternoon in Colorado Springs. Faith had many scoring opportunities during the first two quarters of play but struggled to convert those attempts to buckets. Even with those scoring woes, the Eagles headed to the locker room at half time with at 21-10 lead. The ladies did a great job of implementing the full court press causing panic from the Lion's squad and forcing many turnovers. The Eagles guards took care of the ball well, committing only 10 game turnovers and controlling the pace of the game. Shooting improved in the second half of play and the Eagles cruised to a win. Faith vs Mead
Jan. 4th
The lady Eagles came back from Christmas break Wednesday night ready to play ball! The Eagles once again had to travel to an opposing gym due to construction at Ward Road, but the trip left no ill effects. Although Faith jumped to a quick 9-2 lead, the game was a battle from tip off to final buzzer, with both teams trading baskets throughout the first half of play. The Eagles held the lead most of the first half, but a run by Mead left the Eagles trailing by 2 at half time. Faith tighten up on "D" and out-scored Mead 15-6 in the third quarter in spite of some key players in foul trouble. The pendulum swung once again in the fourth quarter of play when Mead took the lead with 3 minutes to play. A key basket by Abby Chapman tied the score at 48 with 33 seconds left to play. Tough defensive play kept Mead from scoring and Faith had possession again with 13 seconds. A missed 3 pointer by Chapman led to a rebound and shot by Brooklyn Long. The shot bounced across the rim to Katelyn Pruett who scored at the buzzer to give Faith the win! Leading in scoring for the Eagles was Abby Chapman with 20 points and 5 assists. Long added 13 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists. Abigail Hegarty chipped in 6 points and added 9 rebounds and 2 steals. Cassaundra Rindels and Katelyn Pruett contributed to the boards with 6 each.
Faith vs. Evergreen
Dec. 20th
Due to the addition of a hardwood floor in the Ward Road gym, the ladies headed to the home court of Colorado Christian University to face Evergreen on Tuesday, December 20th. The change in court was of little consequence as both teams came ready to play. Heavy pressure on the Faith guards by an athletic Evergreen line up forced turnovers by the Eagles while a tough full court press by the Eagles also forced turnovers by Evergreen and allowed the Eagles to post 12 steals as a team. Both teams showed aggressive offensive play in the first half of the game leading to a 31-29 score in favor of Evergreen. Buckets were hard to come by for the Eagles in the third quarter of play but intense defensive effort kept the game in check. Faith vs. Eaton
Dec. 17th
The Eaton High School gym is never an easy place to play for the Eagles. Perennial rivals, the Reds and Eagles have battled for years. The lady Eagles knew going into Saturday night's contest that facing undefeated Eaton in their gym was going to be no easy task and that they would have to bring their "A" game. The Eagles did just that! Although the final score will be marked in the loss column for the Eagles, they did not go down without a fight! Faith hit the floor running from the initial jump ball. Intense "D" and good offensive play led to a half time lead for the Eagles 27-26. The Eagles struggled to hit buckets in the third and failed to stop the Reds offensively which lead to a 18-6 run for Eaton. The lady Eagles came back in the 4th and outscored Eaton 17-16. Faith vs Golden
Dec. 6th
Plagued by first have jitters, the Lady Eagles struggled to get any rhythm in their opening game against the 4A Golden Demons. Buckets would not fall for the Eagles and turnovers were abundant throughout the first period of play. The ladies continued to struggle well into the second period but as the half drew to an end, things started to turn around as Abby Chapman (12 pts, 1 steal, 1 asst.) hit a 3 and defensive efforts led by Brooklyn Long (9pts, 8 rbds, 3 blocks) picked up. After the break, the Eagles returned to the court showing a much higher level of ball control and overall defensive effort. Abigail Hegarty, who led all Eagles in scoring with 14 points made several critical lay ups after beautiful assists from her teammates. The lady's rebounding effort increased during the second half also. Besides Long's 8 rebounds, Hegarty had 8 and Kayla Keiter added 7 more. The Eagles actually outscored the Demons by 6 in the second half of play. Unfortunately, the second half effort was not enough. Final score for the contest was 58-42.
